Day 1 in Nihon Land: The Science of Murphy's Law

After arriving at Narita Airport passed 8pm, I wondered why the excitement and utter joy of being in the land of my dreams hasnt washed over me yet. The amount of stress I've put myself into in preparing for this trip strating two weeks ago must have been that much. This stress didnt go away even after I've left the house as mishaps after mishaps ranging from irritating to panicking plagued my trip. From leaving my return e-ticket at home (even after I made several copies) to getting flagged at the boarding gate for some unknown reason (the stewardesses never got back to me) to having to sneak into the hotel since we still didnt have a room for the night, I was always asking "whats going to happened next". As if my OC levels werent high enough the passed few days while I prepared for the trip. But now I'm just glad I'm here safe and with a warm bed within reach. Its 2AM Japan time and I've only had 3hrs of proper sleep. Of course now that I'm here my goal is to see and experience as much of Nihon Land as I can. That means even fewer amounts of sleep I'm afraid...

Blue tights and red underpants are in once again!

After the local release of the new Superman movie Superman Returns, I wondered if poeple would actually start a Superman-inspired fashion statement. Thankfully they stayed with the cute white shirts embelishing the iconic-"S" symbol and not the spandex blue tights with red hipsters sewn on top... I shiver at the thought. I hope instead to see more of the Lex Luthor-inspired clothing. Snazzy and sinister work well together.

Speaking of, I am trully pleased with how Kevin Spacey portrayed Lex Luthor. He's a sinister, diabolically funny, and bald works for him. But personally the title still falls on Gene Hackman's lap, Kevin just dresses better. I vaguely remember the 1978 and 1980 Superman movies but this movie does tie in as the "prefferred" part 3.

Strangely enough, after watching the movie last Saturday, i was plagued by last song sydrome of Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out for a Hero. I blame this on the latest Jack Black movie Nacho Libre. I'll reserve my comments for that movie when it comes out.

Btw, here's my friend's more length review of the film: Superman Returns

MMORPG for workaholics

Yes its possible, and there is never "no time for games" when it comes to this. Its the new "PLAY THEN LEAVE" styple of RPG and it can be highly adictive. In truth, this is an old old style of gameplay that more and more workers who are gamers at heart and are being robbed of precious QT (quality time) with their consoles or PC games should try out. Nothing feels more perfect than to kill some demons or blow up enemy robots in between that end-of-month budget meeting and the performance review sessions that follow.

AdAware disaster

Its very frustrating when, after taking alot of extra effort not to infect your desktop with any spyware, adware and malware for the last year, you experience a flood of such annoyances when you install the update to your personal firewall--a brand that has been accepted by the majority of netizens as a fundamental "must" to protect PCs from the onslaught of constant cyber invasion.

There is no safe place in cyber space.

"Boxing is the business of hurt."

Manny landing a painful one on Oscar Larios last Sunday. As everyone expected, Manny wins by unanimous decision, flooring the Mexican twice in the 12-round match.

This is the the latest grain of wisdom that I've gained, and quite appropriately from the Pacquio-Lario match this morning. It makes me wonder why people, thought history, may it be sports or warfare, enjoys watching such pain.

Embassy

Two mental notes: 1.) Manila clubbing usually occurs only on two days, Wednesday and Fridays. Other than that, you'll have to be contented with very expensive beer. 2.) The schedule is tricky. If you are not part of a guest list then better buy tickets the moment the clib opens (at around 1030pm). The go home, nap a bit, then come back at 1:30am. Keeping these in mind will help any newbie clubber to enjoy a packed place, 3 free Smirnoff drinks, and the great house mixes of Anton Ramos.
